Essar Solar Roof Top On Grid
What are solar panels?
Solar panels are devices that convert light into electricity. They are called "solar" panels because most of the time, the most powerful source of light available is the Sun, called Sol by astronomers. Some scientists call them photovoltaics which means, basically, "light-electricity."
Solar panels installed on your roof work best during daylight hours. When the sun is shining directly onto them, sunlight can be converted into electricity. Your solar panel efficiency drops at night because there is no sunlight to convert to electricity and solar panels can't generate power in darkness.
How Do Solar Panels Work?
When photons hit a solar cell, they knock electrons loose from their atoms. If conductors are attached to the positive and negative sides of a cell, it forms an electrical circuit. When electrons flow through such a circuit, they generate electricity. Multiple cells make up a solar panel, and multiple panels (modules) can be wired together to form a solar array. The more panels you can deploy, the more energy you can expect to generate.
How Do Solar Panels Generate Electricity?
PV solar panels generate direct current (DC) electricity. With DC electricity, electrons flow in one direction around a circuit. This example shows a battery powering a light bulb. The electrons move from the negative side of the battery, through the lamp, and return to the positive side of the battery.

In grid connected rooftop or small SPV system, the DC power generated from SPV panel is converted to AC power using power conditioning unit and is fed to the grid either of 33 kV/11 kV three phase lines or of 440V/220V three/single phase line depending on the local technical and legal requirements. These systems generate power during the day time which is utilized by powering captive loads and feed excess power to the grid. In case, when power generated is not sufficient, the captive loads are served by drawing power from the grid. The concept of rooftop solar is based on the scale of the PV plant rather than the fact whether it is situated on a roof/terrace or not. Hence, the definition of RTS also includes small solar plant on the ground.
BENEFITS FROM THE GRID 3 CONNECTED ROOFTOP SOLAR SYSTEM
Utilization of available vacant roof space; · Low gestation period; · Lower transmission and distribution losses; · Improvement in the tail-end grid voltages and reduction of system congestion; · Loss mitigation by utilization of distribution network as a source of storage through net metering; · Long term energy and ecological security by reduction in carbon emission;. · Abatement of about 60 million tonnes of CO per year over its life cycle; 2 · Better Management of daytime peak loads by DISCOM/ utility; · Meeting of the renewable purchase obligations (RPOs) of obligated entities which are targeted at 8% of electricity consumption; · Minimal technical losses as power consumption and generation.
